Realme 15 Pro Review After 10 Days: Unveiling 5 Major Problems You Need to Know

Realme 15 Pro

I’ve been using the Realme 15 Pro for approximately 10 days now, and it’s time to share my detailed review. Is this phone worth purchasing? Does it offer good value for money? How does it perform in gaming? What about battery backup and camera quality? I’ll provide clear answers to all these questions, so make sure to read till the end.

Camera Performance: A Mixed Bag with Significant Flaws

The Realme 15 Pro features a 50-megapixel main sensor on the rear and a 50-megapixel selfie camera. Both front and rear cameras are capable of recording videos at 4K 60fps, and even Full HD 60fps. However, my experience reveals some notable issues.

Realme 15 Pro

Let’s start with some camera samples. I captured several human subjects with the rear camera. In normal samples, the detailing is decent, but it tends to add a red tint to faces, especially when the sun reflects on the face, making it almost unrecognizable. While it optimizes the sky in the background well, objects like trees often appear slightly blurry, lacking the expected detail. When the sun is in the background, it struggles to optimize human subjects effectively; in one instance, it completely darkened my face. Clearly, the camera needs significant improvement.

The edge detection in portrait mode was impressive. However, when attempting 2x zoom portrait samples, the quality was surprisingly poor. In some shots, the background blur wasn’t optimized correctly, and the sky in one picture was rendered so badly it’s hard to describe. While it doesn’t always take bad pictures, the overall picture quality and optimization were often disappointing.

Natural samples, on the other hand, genuinely impressed me. The detailing was quite good, and the color tone wasn’t overly boosted. Even pictures taken around noon showed good optimization of subjects like flowers, with decent dynamic range.

The selfie camera is quite good. The detailing is excellent, and it effectively optimizes the background, including the sky and trees, even with the sun present. It doesn’t over-beautify faces, and edge detection in portrait mode is also commendable. Overall, the selfie camera’s detailing is a strong point.

I recorded videos with both the rear and selfie cameras. The quality in Full HD 60fps is acceptable, and the audio recorded by the phone’s microphone is clear. A neat feature of the selfie camera is its ability to record in a slightly ultra-wide mode and zoom up to 2x. However, the selfie camera’s overall video quality could be better.

Night photography is a major weakness. Whether it’s the selfie or rear camera, night samples are consistently poor. While edge detection in portrait mode is okay, detailing is lacking. Normal night samples show excessive red tones and significant noise. When there are lights in the background, especially in portrait or normal mode, the phone completely fails to optimize them. The 2x zoom in night conditions is also very bad. Essentially, the phone struggles to manage light in low-light conditions, which is a critical flaw.

Performance: Good for Gaming, But Camera App Lags

The Realme 15 Pro is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 74 processor, achieving an AnTuTu score of over 1 million. Geekbench 6 scores are also respectable. In normal day-to-day usage, I didn’t notice any significant lag, jitter, or frame drops. While there are a couple of pre-installed bloatware apps, they can be uninstalled.

My gaming experience, particularly with BGMI, was excellent. The FPS remains stable, and there’s no noticeable heating, even during extended sessions. Gaming performance is a definite strong suit.

However, I did encounter a specific performance issue: the camera application occasionally lags. This doesn’t happen every time, but during prolonged outdoor photo shoots for review purposes, I noticed intermittent lag when switching between different camera modes. It’s frustrating because it’s hard to capture on video, but it’s a real issue that needs optimization.

Battery & Charging: Outstanding Endurance

The phone packs a massive 7000 mAh battery. In normal day-to-day usage, it comfortably lasts about 1.5 days. Even with heavy usage, it easily provides a full day of power. Battery life is undoubtedly a major highlight, with no complaints whatsoever. Complementing this is the 80W fast charging, which quickly recharges the phone.

Design & Display: Premium Looks with a Fragile Side

The Realme 15 Pro boasts an IP69 rating, offering decent water and dust resistance. It features a stunning 6.8-inch 1.5K Quad-Curved Display. Watching movies and videos on it is a fantastic experience, and HDR content plays smoothly without any lag.

The curved display, while beautiful, is a point of concern. I highly recommend using a tempered glass protector. If the phone falls and the display breaks, replacing it will be very expensive.

The overall design is appealing, and many will like its aesthetics. Fingerprints and scratches are not easily noticeable, and the phone feels comfortable for long-term, one-handed use. It also features dual speakers with excellent sound quality.

A minor design flaw is the protruding camera bump. Without a back case, placing the phone on a table means the camera bump is exposed and prone to scratches.

Out of the box, the phone runs Android 15 with Realme UI 6.0. It includes several AI features like AI Summary, Photo Eraser, and Circle to Search, along with many others, which enhance the user experience.

Realme 15 Pro: 5 Major Problems After 10 Days of Use

Now, let’s address the crucial question: Is this phone value for money? For many, the primary reason to buy this phone would be its camera, and ironically, that’s its biggest weakness.

  1. Poor Overall Camera Optimization and Quality: The camera quality, especially for human subjects (red tint, poor optimization with background light) and night shots (excessive red tone, noise, inability to manage light), is subpar and needs significant improvement.
  2. Unacceptable 2x Zoom Camera Quality: The 2x zoom performance, particularly in night conditions, is shockingly bad. I haven’t seen such poor 2x zoom quality in any other phone recently.
  3. Camera Application Lagging Issues: During prolonged use, especially outdoors for photo shoots, the camera application intermittently lags and stutters when switching modes. This is a frustrating optimization issue.
  4. Fragile Curved Display & High Repair Cost: While visually appealing, the quad-curved display is expensive to replace if damaged. This fragility necessitates additional protection, like a tempered glass.
  5. Moisture/Fogging Inside Camera Lens: This is a critical and alarming problem. During extended camera use, especially outdoors, moisture or water droplets accumulate inside the camera lens, resulting in blurry and unsightly pictures. I observed and recorded this issue during my camera testing. This points to a serious internal sealing or thermal management flaw.

Conclusion: Should You Buy the Realme 15 Pro?

The Realme 15 Pro offers some compelling strengths, including outstanding battery life, rapid charging, good gaming performance, and a premium-looking display. However, its most significant drawbacks lie in its camera performance and camera application optimization. The camera quality, particularly in low light and with 2x zoom, falls far short of expectations. The alarming issue of moisture accumulation inside the camera lens is a major concern that severely impacts image quality.

If your primary reason for buying a smartphone is its camera, then this phone is not for you. If you’re looking for a phone that excels in gaming and general performance, and you can overlook the camera’s significant shortcomings and the potential display fragility, then you might consider it. However, given the critical camera and optimization problems, especially the moisture issue, it’s advisable to think very carefully before purchasing. While future software updates might address some of these issues, the moisture problem suggests a hardware-related flaw.

What are the main camera issues?

Poor optimization, red tint on faces, and terrible night photos with excessive noise.
