Is the iPhone 18 Pro Max Missing the C2 Modem in the US?
This is one of the most confusing details to come out of the event. Apple’s new C2 modem — their in-house cellular chip — is confirmed in the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo. But Apple’s own comparison database may not be listing the C2 modem for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, specifically in the United States.
If the 18 Pro Max in the US is still running the Qualcomm modem rather than Apple’s C2, it may affect connectivity efficiency compared to other models. Apple made efficiency improvements specifically with the C2. This is either a chip supply issue, an undisclosed product decision, or a web page error — we won’t know until the devices ship.
It’s also worth noting that eSIM-only markets have expanded this year to include: Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, the United States, and US Virgin Islands. eSIM-only devices are expected to have slightly larger batteries than the SIM tray variants.
iPhone Duo — What Is Apple’s First Foldable Really Like?
The iPhone Duo was the undisputed star of Surprise & Shine. It starts at $1,999 and goes up to $3,199 for the 2TB option — before tax. It ships in Night Sky and Star White. But beneath the hype, there are real trade-offs Apple didn’t spotlight.
The Display — Wonderfully Flat (But Not Crease-Free)
Apple calls the Duo’s inner display “wonderfully flat” — which is deliberate language. They never claim there’s no crease. The technology appears similar to what OPPO used on the Find N6, where material is used to fill in the hinge gap, then light-cured to create a flat surface under the display.
What the iPhone Duo Is Missing
No Face ID, No Action Button. The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID instead of Face ID and doesn’t include the action button that’s been standard on Pro iPhones. It does include the camera control button. This is a significant omission for anyone coming from a Pro model.
Under-Display Camera is Limited to 1080p. The inner display’s under-display camera — impressive as it is — is capped at 1080p video. Designed primarily for FaceTime calls, it’s a notable limitation for a $2,000+ device in 2026.
Apple Pencil Support: The iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil — but only the USB-C Apple Pencil, and support isn’t available at launch. It’s coming in a future iOS update (likely iOS 27.2 or later). Apple Pencil Pro and other variants are not supported.

Siri AI Has Daily Usage Limits. Apple has confirmed that Siri AI features have daily usage caps. Additional use beyond those limits will cost money in the future. Apple hasn’t specified the exact limits or the fee structure. It may be bundled into iCloud Plus, but this hasn’t been confirmed. If you’re planning to be a heavy Siri AI user, this is a significant detail to watch.
