Apple’s “Surprise and Shine” event was packed — new iPhones, a foldable, new watches, new AirPods, and even a new CEO. But as always with Apple events, the keynote tells only half the story.

After going through every spec sheet, EU regulatory filing, Apple’s own comparison database, and iOS 27 RC builds, we’ve compiled everything Apple quietly slipped past audiences during the presentation. If you’re considering spending anywhere from $1,199 to $3,199 on one of these devices, this is the article you need to read first.

Leadership

Who Is John Turnis — Apple’s New CEO?

Apple opened the Surprise & Shine event with Tim Cook — only for him to say “It’s not me you want.” That single line introduced John Turnis as Apple’s new CEO, making it the most significant leadership transition since Tim Cook took over from Steve Jobs in 2011.

👔

The “One More Thing” Connection

Turnis revealed the iPhone Duo as the event’s surprise finale with a “one more thing” moment — a phrase Steve Jobs made legendary. It signals that Apple’s new leadership is consciously channeling the showmanship of the Jobs era, while clearly stepping into new territory with a foldable product that Jobs-era Apple would never have greenlit.

iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max

How Much Does the iPhone 18 Pro Cost — And Is It Worth It?

The short answer: it’s more expensive than last year, at every tier. Apple raised the base price by $100, but the real sticker shock comes at higher storage tiers. Here’s the full breakdown:

ModelStoragePrice (USD)
iPhone 18 ProBase$1,199
iPhone 18 Pro512GB+$200 more than 17 Pro equiv.
iPhone 18 Pro MaxBase$1,299
iPhone 18 Pro Max2TB$2,499
🚨

What Apple Didn’t Say: The 1TB option costs $300 more than the equivalent iPhone 17 Pro variant. The 2TB iPhone 18 Pro Max at $2,499 is more expensive than many MacBook Air configurations. That’s the price of a premium laptop for a smartphone.

Colors, Dimensions & Weight — What’s Actually New

Design-wise, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are identical in dimensions to the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Your existing cases and MagSafe accessories will work — as long as button placement hasn’t shifted, which we’ll confirm once review units arrive.

New color options this year: Black, Silver, Glacier (blue), and Burgundy — replacing last year’s Deep Blue, Cosmic Orange, and Silver lineup. Both Apple Black and Glacier are standout picks.

⚖️

Heavier Than Last Year: Despite identical dimensions, both phones gained weight. The 18 Pro Max is now 249g (8.78oz) vs 233g last year. The 18 Pro is 211g vs 206g. The likely reason? Larger batteries and a bigger vapor chamber. Apple didn’t address this during the keynote.

Camera & Battery

What Did Apple Not Mention About the Camera and Battery?

Apple was surprisingly vague about two of the features buyers care most about — camera aperture and actual battery sizes. Here’s what’s in the fine print.

The Main Camera’s Adjustable Aperture

Apple announced a new main camera with a new lens but didn’t reveal the aperture in the keynote. According to spec documentation, the main camera now adjusts from f/1.48 to f/4.0 — a wider range than before, giving you more control over depth of field and low-light performance. In auto mode, it’ll adjust on its own.

📸

Front camera improvements Apple glossed over: The smaller Dynamic Island now houses an updated front camera with smart focus tracking, improved low-light performance, 4K time-lapse with stabilization and Dolby Vision HDR support, and a new “tap to zoom and rotate” option. Worth noting for selfie and FaceTime users.

Actual Battery Sizes — Leaked via EU Filing

Apple never mentioned battery capacities in the keynote. Thanks to mandatory EU regulatory filings, we now have the numbers for SIM card tray variants:

iPhone 18 Pro Battery
4,056 mAh
Up from 3,988 mAh in 17 Pro
iPhone 18 Pro Max Battery
5,391 mAh
Up from 4,823 mAh in 17 Pro Max
Fast Charging Speed
50% in 15 min
Requires a 60W charger (not included)
Previous Fast Charge
50% in 20 min
iPhone 17 Pro with 45W charger
🔌

The Charger Catch: Apple says you can charge to 50% in 15 minutes — but you need a 60W charger to achieve that, which Apple doesn’t include in the box. This detail appears only in the technical documentation, not the keynote or main product pages.

RAM — Unchanged and Unmentioned

Despite the A20 Pro chip bringing a faster CPU, an extra GPU core, and a dual 16-core neural engine, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max ship with the same 12GB of RAM as the 17 Pro lineup. Apple said nothing about this during the event.

Connectivity

Is the iPhone 18 Pro Max Missing the C2 Modem in the US?

This is one of the most confusing details to come out of the event. Apple’s new C2 modem — their in-house cellular chip — is confirmed in the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo. But Apple’s own comparison database may not be listing the C2 modem for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, specifically in the United States.

⚠️ What This Could Mean

If the 18 Pro Max in the US is still running the Qualcomm modem rather than Apple’s C2, it may affect connectivity efficiency compared to other models. Apple made efficiency improvements specifically with the C2. This is either a chip supply issue, an undisclosed product decision, or a web page error — we won’t know until the devices ship.

It’s also worth noting that eSIM-only markets have expanded this year to include: Bahrain, Canada, Guam, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, the United States, and US Virgin Islands. eSIM-only devices are expected to have slightly larger batteries than the SIM tray variants.

Foldable iPhone

iPhone Duo — What Is Apple’s First Foldable Really Like?

The iPhone Duo was the undisputed star of Surprise & Shine. It starts at $1,999 and goes up to $3,199 for the 2TB option — before tax. It ships in Night Sky and Star White. But beneath the hype, there are real trade-offs Apple didn’t spotlight.

The Display — Wonderfully Flat (But Not Crease-Free)

Apple calls the Duo’s inner display “wonderfully flat” — which is deliberate language. They never claim there’s no crease. The technology appears similar to what OPPO used on the Find N6, where material is used to fill in the hinge gap, then light-cured to create a flat surface under the display.

What the iPhone Duo Is Missing

No Face ID, No Action Button. The iPhone Duo uses Touch ID instead of Face ID and doesn’t include the action button that’s been standard on Pro iPhones. It does include the camera control button. This is a significant omission for anyone coming from a Pro model.

📷

Under-Display Camera is Limited to 1080p. The inner display’s under-display camera — impressive as it is — is capped at 1080p video. Designed primarily for FaceTime calls, it’s a notable limitation for a $2,000+ device in 2026.

✏️

Apple Pencil Support: The iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil — but only the USB-C Apple Pencil, and support isn’t available at launch. It’s coming in a future iOS update (likely iOS 27.2 or later). Apple Pencil Pro and other variants are not supported.

iPhone Duo — Strengths

  • Thinnest iPhone ever at 5.22mm open
  • Near-creaseless foldable display
  • Camera control button included
  • Apple Pencil support (coming later)
  • Ships with iOS 27.1
  • Available in 2TB storage

iPhone Duo — Watch Outs

  • Starts at $1,999 — very expensive
  • No Face ID — Touch ID only
  • No action button
  • Inner camera limited to 1080p
  • Heavier than 18 Pro Max at 254g
  • Apple Pencil Pro not supported
Siri AI

What Are Siri AI’s Hidden Daily Usage Limits?

Apple pushed Siri AI hard throughout the event, calling it transformative in iOS 27. And from what’s visible in iOS 27 RC builds, it looks genuinely impressive. But there’s a catch buried in the fine print.

⚠️

Siri AI Has Daily Usage Limits. Apple has confirmed that Siri AI features have daily usage caps. Additional use beyond those limits will cost money in the future. Apple hasn’t specified the exact limits or the fee structure. It may be bundled into iCloud Plus, but this hasn’t been confirmed. If you’re planning to be a heavy Siri AI user, this is a significant detail to watch.

📱

Cellular Device Handoff: iOS 27 introduces seamless phone switching — transition from one iPhone to another by simply picking it up. Currently limited to T-Mobile (US) and Telecom Germany at launch, with Verizon and others coming later. A carrier fee may apply.

AirPods & Apple Watch

AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12 & Ultra 4 — What’s Actually New?

AirPods 5

AirPods 5 replace the AirPods 4 with the same general design but with meaningful upgrades. The base model at $129 includes 50% improved noise cancellation over AirPods 4 ANC and adaptive audio support — features previously gated behind higher-priced models.

🎧

AirPods 5 — $149 Variant Worth It?

The $149 AirPods 5 adds a stem for volume control (similar to AirPods Pro 3), one extra hour of battery life (5 hours vs 4), and a wireless charging case. For $20 more, you get genuinely useful upgrades — the wireless case alone justifies the price difference for most users.

Apple Watch Series 12 & Ultra 4

Both the Series 12 and Ultra 4 share the new S11 chipset, single and double tap gestures, Precision L1 GPS (new for Series 12), and an all-new sensor array for high-frequency continuous heart rate tracking. The health app gains a Readiness app, Recovery HRV, and Audio Intelligence — which can transcribe ambient sound if permitted.

Apple Watch Series 12 & Ultra 4Earlier than iPhones

★ My PitShop Verdict

Should You Buy the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone Duo?

The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max are solid upgrades — better battery, faster charging (if you have a 60W charger), a wider aperture camera, and A20 Pro performance. But the RAM staying at 12GB, the possible Qualcomm modem in the US Pro Max, and the significant price hike across all storage tiers are real reasons to pause.

The iPhone Duo is genuinely exciting — the thinnest open-form foldable we’ve seen from any brand, with Apple’s characteristic polish. But at $1,999 to $3,199, with no Face ID, a 1080p under-display camera, and no action button, it’s a first-generation product that enthusiasts will love and most buyers should wait on.

We’ll have full hands-on reviews of both devices once review units arrive. Watch this space on My PitShop for real-world battery tests, camera comparisons, and India pricing analysis.
