Design & Build — Big, Heavy, Unapologetically Bold

Let’s start with the truth: the Poco F9 Ultra is a big phone. We’re talking just under 7 inches, and at 235 grams, it’s heavier than some foldables. Drop this on your foot and you’ll know about it. One-handed use is essentially a fantasy — the rounded corners help somewhat, but there’s only so much ergonomics can do with a phone this size.

Build Materials

• Front: Gorilla Glass 7i with a pre-applied screen protector
• Back: Fiberglass-reinforced polymer — feels plasticky, let’s be honest
• Frame: Burgundy metal edges matching the back finish
• IP Rating: Fully dust and water resistant — flagship standard

The back panel feels a little plasticky in hand, but that’s essentially the only gripe with the physical build. Because the Dark Cherry finish — a gorgeous matte burgundy — is genuinely one of the most striking colour options on any phone in 2026. Matte finish means no fingerprints, no smudges. At night, brightness drops smoothly for comfortable viewing, and DC dimming is available for those sensitive to OLED flicker.

The 185Hz refresh rate is available for the small selection of games that can actually hit that frame rate. For everything else, the display dynamically adjusts — conserving battery while keeping scrolling butter-smooth.

The Honest Problems

• Too much bloatware — AliExpress, Amazon, and various Xiaomi apps pre-installed
• First-time app launches require manually declining multiple cookie/tracking prompts
• HyperOS occasionally produces minor judders — almost certainly a software issue, not hardware
• Feels less polished than One UI or stock Android in places

The 5x optical zoom delivers sharp, detailed portraits. Even pushing to 15–20x digital zoom at night returns crisp results with barely any grain — impressive for a phone at this price.

One genuine limitation: Moving subjects at high zoom levels can result in motion blur or focus misses. Shoot multiple frames when capturing anything that moves faster than a tortoise. (Seriously, this came up in testing.)
